Schmidt named to Hockey East All-Star Team
WAKEFIELD, Mass.-- Junior defenseman Bryan Schmidt (Bloomington, Minn.) was named to the Hockey East All-Star Team for the 2004-05 season.
Schmidt, also a captain, led the Warriors with 31 points on 13 goals and 18 assists in 36 games. He was a second team honoree.
In Hockey East league play, Schmidt tied for fourth in scoring among all defensemen with 15 points on five goals and ten assists in 24 games.
Schmidt is the fifth Warrior ever to be named All Hockey East and the first defenseman, joining goaltenders Martin Legault (1995, 1997) and Joe Exter (2003) and forwards Rejean Stringer (1999) and Anthony Aquino (2001).
He moved into 14th place this season on Merrimack's all-time defenseman scoring list with 74 points. His 28 career goals are third all-time among Warrior blueliners. Among players who competed their entire careers in Division I and Hockey East, Schmidt ranks third thus far in scoring behind Darrel Scoville (17-61--78) and Mark Cornforth (17-60--77).
Schmidt was also a semifinalist for the second straight year for the Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the top American-born college player in New England. In his first year with the Warriors in 2002-03, he was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
The Hockey East awards are determined by a vote of the nine league coaches, conducted at the end of the regular season.
