Game Recap

White Edges Blue, 3-2

Saturday, October 3, 2004

North Andover, Mass. -- Brendon Clark scored a late goal to give associate head coach Mike Doneghey's White squad a 3-2 win over assistant coach Stu Irving's Blue team in Merrimack's annual preseason scrimmage game held at the Lawler Arena.

It was the second straight year that Doneghey bested Irving. The game was played with two 20-minute halves.

The White took a 2-1 lead after the first period on a pair of goals by freshmen. Mike Fournier converted a feed from Derek Pallardy just 1:47 in, and then Jeff Royston beat Blue goaltender Casey Guenther at 3:16 on assists from Steve Crusco and Nick Pomponio. At 11:02, the Blue got on the board when Jordan Black buried a pass from Matt Byrnes past White netminder Jim Healey. Ryan Sullivan also assisted.

The Blue team tied the game at 9:19 of the second as Hank Carisio gathered up a loose puck in front and shot it past Healey after a bid by Black. It stayed 2-2 until the closing minutes when Clark beat Frank McLaughlin on a rush with Jordan Fox to snap the tie and send the White team on to the win.

The Warriors open regular season play with a pair of nonconference games. Merrimack travels to Omaha, Neb. for the Maverick Stampede tournament Oct. 9-10. The Warriors meet Rensselaer on the first day of the tournament and will then face either Connecticut or host Nebraska-Omaha the next day.
