Game Recap

BC Takes Series With Late Goal, 2-1

Saturday, March 8, 2003

Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- Junior J.D. Forrest scored the gamewinner at 19:41 of the third period to give second-seeded Boston College a 2-1 win over seventh-seeded Merrimack in the second game of the best-of-three HOCKEY EAST quarterfinal round.

The win gives Boston College (23-9-4) a two-game sweep of the series with the Warriors and advances the Eagles to the semifinal round to face rival Boston University, Friday at 8 p.m. at the FleetCenter.

Merrimack (12-18-6) opened the scoring at 7:04 of the first period on freshman Brent Gough's 12th goal of the season. Freshmen Bryan Schmidt and Matt Johnson assisted on the tally.

The Warriors' lead didn't last long as BC's Justin Dziama scored his fifth goal of the season just 21 seconds later. Senior Anthony D'Arpino and junior Ty Hennes registered the assists.

Sophomore Casey Guenther made 27 saves for Merrimack, while sophomore Matti Kaltiainen made 17 stops for BC.
