Exter Stops 35 As Warriors Top Brown, 3-1

North Andover, Mass. -- Joe Exter (Cranston, RI) made 35 saves including 20 in the second period as Merrimack (10-10-4) downed Brown (9-7-2) at the Volpe Center. Alex Sikatchev (St. Petersburg, Russia) assisted on both Warrior goals in the in the third period including the game-winner by Marco Rosa (Whitby, ONT). Matt Johnson (Eden Prairie, MN) and Lucas Smith (Milton, MA) also scored for the Warriors.

After a scoreless first period, Johnson got Merrimack on the board 3:03 into the second period with his eighth goal of the season. Nick Pomponio (Livonia, MI) sent the puck in front and Johnson was on the left side of the net to swat it in. Jason Wilson (LaSalle, ONT) tied it at the 13:36 mark of the second from the left circle, firing a shot along the ice that beat Exter on his glove side.

Rosa put the Warriors up 2-1, finishing off a centering pass by Sikatchev 1:20 into the third period. Sikatchev also set up the insurance goal, which came just over a minute later. From the left boards, Sikatchev sent a perfect pass to Smith who beat Brown goaltender Yann Danis (Saine-Jerome, QUE) for his third goal of the season.

Danis finished with 27 saves in the loss for Brown.

Merrimack returns to Hockey East play Thursday night at Boston University. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
